This short course was designed to meet the needs of those who wanted a good introduction to the skills, equipment and techniques required to safely hike in the hills of Ireland. It is not intended as a substitute for a Mountain Skills course, it does not go into navigation in the same detail.

It is, however, intended to give confidence to those who wish to start hillwalking and is ideal for novices.

Topics covered in the course will include:

• Personal equipment.
• Mountain hazards.
• Introduction to map reading.
• Basic navigation techniques.
• Emergency proceedures.

  Plus a guided hike of your choice, taken from our hiking program.

Duration:             1 Day skills training and 1 guided hike of your choice.
