This is an opportunity to climb the highest mountain in Ulster, Slieve Donard (849 metres).  A steady climb from the Trassey Road brings us to the Hare’s Gap where we follow the Mourne Wall over Slievenagogh and Slieve Commedagh, the second highest mountain in this range. From here the views over the reservoirs of the Silent valley to the south and to Tollymore forest and Newcastle to the north are magnificent. We descend again, before one last pull up to the summit of Slieve Donard, our climbing over for the day we return via an old pack-horse route.

Grade: Hard/Strenuous, (rocky mountain paths and steep hillside, not suitable for beginners)

Please note this hike is on rough mountain hillside that includes rocky sections and wet slippery ground. It is essential that you wear appropriate mountain footwear, especially in the wetter months of the year. You may be turned away by the guide if you arrive in runners.
