Advanced Level Navigation Course
This higher level advanced navigation course uses contour only maps to refine your contour interpretation skills.
Using specialist maps produced exclusively for Mountaintrails you will learn to navigate across open country using only the contour lines on the map. All the other symbols and features will have been removed.
This one day workshop is held in the Maumturk mountains in Connemara, where the complex topography lends itself to this technique and is ideal for the requirements of this course.
The course is run at a maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 6 clients to ensure you will get the most benefit from the day.
To get the most out this workshop you should be comfortable with using a map and compass to navigate, and be able to take a compass bearing and walk accurately on the bearing.
What to Bring
- Walking boots or waterproof shoes
- Waterproof jacket and trousers

- Water or juice drink, (1.5 litres)
- Small rucksack to carry all in
