Introduction to Scrambling Weekend in Snowdonia

If you have ever wanted to try some of the classic grade 1 scrambles in the iconic mountains of Snowdonia then this weekend is for you.

We will travel on the 3:00pm ferry from Dublin port on the Friday and return on the 8.00pm sailing on Monday evening, getting back into Dublin around midnight.

  • We stay in the village of Llanberis, in a self catering guest house in shared rooms.
  • This weekend is run with a ratio of 1:6 to ensure maximum attention for each client.
  • At no time will we be using ropes, harnesses or climbing techniques.

Introduction to Scrambling

Day 1: An introduction

We’ll start with a look at scrambling techniques, movement skills and safety on rock steps, ridges and in descent, as we warm up on some relatively easy rock. We will also look at scrambling grades and scrambling specific guide books.

Days 2 and 3: Scrambling

We’ll progress our skills as we take on some of the best grade 1 scrambling Wales has to offer. Specific routes will be chosen on the day, depending on the weather, but possible routes include the Gribin ridge, Crib Lem Spur, Tryfan north ridge, Y Gribin.

This event is graded as ‘strenuous’ and is not suitable for beginners.

Introduction to Scrambling

Equipment

  • Good hiking boots and waterproof clothing are essential (without these you will be excluded from participating).
  • Walking trousers are advised or comfortable athletic clothing (no jeans please).
  • Spare warm layer; hat and gloves.
  • Lunch and/or snacks; water or juice drink, (1.5 litres); small rucksack to carry it all in.
  • Walking poles are optional
