Here is a great opportunity to climb the highest mountain in England (Scafell Pike) and other iconic Lakeland peaks in this weekend of hiking in the iconic Lake District.

Here is a great opportunity to climb the highest mountain in England (Scafell Pike) and other iconic Lakeland peaks.
You will need to be a competent hillwalker with experience of climbing some of the higher tops in Ireland.
We will be staying at the Borrowdale YHA in 2, 4 and 6 person private rooms with bunk beds, using shared bathrooms.
Breakfasts are included in the package.

The hostel is self catering, but they do provide evening meals (not included in the price).

Duration

5 Days (3 days hiking)

Itinerary

Day 1:
Drive to Belfast and ferry to Cairnryan, drive to Borrowdale YHA.

Day 2:
Climb Scafell Pike , the highest point in England (978 metres) ascending via the corridor route and taking in some amazing Lakeland scenery. Possible descent via Great End and Grains Gill.

Day 3:
Drive to Glenridding in Patterdale to climb the iconic Helvellyn (2nd highest point in England) via Striding Edge. We descend via Dollywagon Pike and Grisedale back to our start point.

Day 4:
A slightly more gentle day walking around the Borrowdale Fells (or sightseeing/shopping in Keswick which has some great outdoor stores).

Day 5:
Return to Dublin

All itineraries are dependant on the weather and subject to change.

 

Lake District Weekend

 

The cost will include:

  • 4 nights accommodation
  • All transport and guide fees.

It will not include:

  • Food and drink (except breakfast).

-This event is graded as ‘strenuous’ and is not suitable for beginners.

Equipment

  • Good hiking boots and waterproof clothing are essential (without these you will be excluded from participating).
  • Walking trousers are advised or comfortable athletic clothing (no jeans please).
  • Spare warm layer; hat and gloves.
  • Lunch and/or snacks; water or juice drink, (1.5 litres); small rucksack to carry it all in.
  • Walking poles are optional
